Reaching out and changing lives

Every family deserves a place to call home – a safe haven that offers running water, electricity, sanitation, and shelter. Unfortunately, South Africa faces formidable infrastructure and service delivery challenges, which exacerbate poverty and sluggish economic growth. Our goal at the Gap Infrastructure Corporation is to change lives by enhancing the welfare of local communities across South Africa and beyond to make the services they receive more efficient.
We meet these challenges by strongly focusing on formalising informal settlements and contributing to the South African housing industry’s value chain.

Community Projects

Established in 2009, the Derrick Spencer Soccer Festival aims to give back to the Eshowe community in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. This year, GIC played a pivotal role in the event, supporting the local teams, and doing our bit to give back to the youth of KZN. The festival was started by former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana soccer legend Derrick Spencer.

This year, on June 15th, GIC was a main sponsor of the celebrations, donating sports kits for the soccer teams as well as blankets and soccer balls. By doing our part for the local community, we’re supporting the Derrick Spender Foundation’s goals of creating a brighter future for the next generation, aligning with our aims to empower communities and change lives

In celebration of Mandela Day, SABC 2’s beloved show, Muvhango partnered with the Gap Infrastructure Corporation to give back to the Thathe Tshidzivhe community in Venda. Just in time to keep the winter cold at bay, the collaboration was a celebration of Muvhango’s 25 years of exceptional storytelling that brought diversity to the television screens of millions of South Africans. Much-needed blankets were gifted to elders in the community, who were excited to meet and spend time with the cast of the show that explores the beauty and rich depth of their sacred VhaVenda culture. GIC is proud to have partnered with Muvhango in this compassionate gesture.

Quality education for every child is imperative to the future success of South Africa. At GIC, we believe that all children have the right to learn, develop, and flourish in a safe school environment – a right also enshrined in South Africa’s Constitution. It is for this reason that we were moved to lend a helping hand to Madibatlou Middle School in Olifantsfontein, Gauteng. As a Quintile 1 school, the institution relies on the government and the generosity of sponsors to help maintain its facilities – a task that became increasingly difficult as the school expanded. GIC intervened after realizing the burden on the available infrastructure and the shortage of resources.

Gap Infrastructure Corporation recently had the privilege of partnering with Barney’s Army Foundation and celebrating their first-ever official golf day. Teeing off with various stakeholders and sporting legends like John Smit, Chris Morris, Graeme Smith, and Gareth “Soldier Boy” McLellan, GIC helped to raise funds for children and youth in need. LIV Village, Operation Bobbi Bear, and the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund are some of the charities supported by Barney’s Army Foundation, and the GIC team was grateful to be part of this fun initiative.

community outreaches and sponsorships

GIC continually seeks ways to reach out to communities and make a difference, often through exciting partnerships that bolster the positive impact we wish to make.
Providing Running Water: Through hard work and innovation, GIC provided a standpipe and metered water to each home within a community in the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipal area of Upington. This community had been without running water for 10 years, and our services have drastically improved their quality of life.
Donating Food Parcels: We have been involved with various food parcel drops and SPCA food deliveries. Some of these donations include:
  • Partnering with the Rotary Club of Klerksdorp to distribute over 1 000 meat parcels to local old age homes, shelters, and orphanages, and a meat drop at the Triest Training Centre for people with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • A meat drop for the Atamelang Shelter.

GIC Staff Initiatives

Many of our staff have undertaken charitable acts such as building, painting, and renovating various homes and NPO structures in local communities.
